Join us in a fun and informative tour of Scissortail Park’s own apiary (at the south end of the park, on the east side of Union Station) to explore the history of beekeeping around the world, from the stone age to modern day, as we visit models of historical beehives throughout the ages!
Darren Mize is the founding Administrator of Firestorm Honey Guild, a local organization focused on the history and traditions of beekeeping. He is also a backyard beekeeper and a 25 year member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a worldwide history organization founded in 1966. Born and raised in Edmond, he is an Edmond resident along with his family and their dogs, rabbits and bees. His teaching experience includes classes on historical research and beekeeping at SCA’s collegium events, and he regularly hosts Firestorm Honey Guild’s tent at the Medieval Fair of Norman
