Several weeks ago, Scissortail Park announced a new live music series intended to bring the community together in an outdoor space with ample social distancing. Even though the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases can be traced to primarily small, indoor activities, we have decided to pause the concert series out of an abundance of caution.
Our planned Live from the Lawn concerts have been canceled for July and August. However, instead of promoted events intended for large gatherings, Scissortail Park will feature solo artists and small groups from our Okie All Stars original lineup. Guests that are already in the Park on select Friday nights will be able to discover and enjoy these amazing local artists.
New concert series features live music on the 4.4-acre great lawn at Scissortail Park providing ample space to enjoy a free concert while practicing responsible social distancing
While artists and musicians have turned to streaming across social media platforms in lieu of in-person performances during the global coronavirus pandemic, live music is set to return to Scissortail Park on Friday, June 19. Local, regional, and national artists and musicians will take the stage on select Friday evenings for Live from the Lawn beginning June 19. Concerts will be held on the Love’s Travel Stops Stage & Great Lawn.
Scissortail Park began as a dream to build a world-class destination unlike any other centered around health, wellness, a connection to nature, and entertainment for all citizens. The grand opening concert on September 27, 2019 featuring Kings of Leon was nothing short of spectacular welcoming over 28,000 guests to what is now officially Oklahoma City’s largest live music event. As the city moves into the next phases of re-opening, Scissortail Park is excited to play a role in the return of live music offering a venue where the community can come together while staying safely apart.
The debut concert in the series features several of the artists who performed on Scissortail Streams, the 10-episode online streaming series which showcased local musicians performing in various venues around the Park during March, April and May (Find all 10 episodes here – https://bit.ly/ScissortailStreamsPlaylist).
The line-up for the June 19 “Okie All Stars” Live from the Lawn concert includes:
- Chelsey Cope
- Hotel Nights
- J and The Bishops
- Jason Scott
- Kyle Reid
- Stephen Salewon
- Tanner Fields
“We are ready and excited to present ‘Live from the Lawn’ concerts at Scissortail Park. With plenty of beautiful open green space to social distance, our Love’s Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn will be the place to be to enjoy and support local and regional talent representing diverse musical genres,” said Maureen Heffernan, CEO of Scissortail Park Foundation. “Come out and enjoy your park and great music this summer.”
Graham Colton who is helping to produce the concert series added, “Scissortail is a symbol of our city’s growth and perseverance. Especially given these uncertain times, I’m super excited to be a part of this special series that will provide a perfect atmosphere to once again enjoy live music.”
Guests are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs to enjoy an evening of quality music in the Park.
In addition, and in support of the local food industry, Scissortail Park will offer guests the chance to purchase a Sound Bites Package that includes food, beverages, and a reserved spot of the lawn. During each concert, a different Oklahoma City restaurant, food truck, or caterer will offer a boxed meal and beverages to pickup before the concerts. A new Sound Bites Package will be announced in advance, along with available food items for pre-purchase before each concert.
“While all concerts are free,” Heffernan added, “you can support the Scissortail Park Foundation by making an online donation to the foundation or become a concert sponsor. For more information, please see our website ScissortailPark.org“.
